Powell Chamber Hires PEP to Manage Operations

Powell, Wyoming—  As a direct result of the community survey and listening sessions this past winter, the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce and Powell Economic Partnership (PEP), Powell’s leading economic and community development organizations, entered into an agreement on Thursday, April 20, 2017 for PEP to manage all operations of the Chamber and Visitor’s Center while both organizations worked toward a consolidation of services identified as community priorities.

After many hours of work sessions over the past 2 months, the Chamber Board concluded that the best outcome for Powell and Powell Chamber members was a consolidation of services with PEP. “We recognize that times have changed and the Powell Chamber Board is confident that this move will be a positive one for Powell and for our Chamber members,” stated Chamber President, J.J. Jeide in a letter to Chamber members. “I want to thank all the Chamber Board, the Chamber members and the community for their patience, loyalty, and commitment to the Chamber. I am also asking for your continued Member support as we move forward. Chamber members will not feel a gap in services,” stated Jeide.

On Thursday, PEP and the Chamber entered into a formal agreement that outlined the transition period in which PEP would manage operations for the Chamber. PEP will maintain the Powell Visitor Center and they are seeking to fill the position of a Visitor Center Coordinator. This is a completely new position and will serve many of the community priorities indicated in the winter survey and listening sessions. PEP will also maintain essential Chamber Member services.

Jeremy Gilb, PEP Chairman, assured PEP Investors and stakeholders that PEP would be protecting its mission and services they provide for economic development for the City of Powell and local businesses. The PEP Board discussion on Thursday was very clear that PEP Executive Director, Christine Bekes, would continue to work on business development priorities, especially those that “support our existing businesses, recruit new businesses and support our entrepreneurial efforts.” Gilb stated in a letter to PEP Investors and Stakeholders, “These efforts around expanded responsibilities, although they will require some energy and time, will not hamper the great strides PEP has made in the past 5 years…”

In the transition period, the PEP Board will be working with a facilitator to outline a successful plan that will be embraced by Chamber members, PEP investors and key stakeholders including, but not limited to, the City of Powell, Park County Travel Council, Chamber Ambassadors, and local businesses. The PEP office will be physically relocating the PEP office from Northwest College to the Chamber building on Day street.
Powell Mayor, John Wetzel, noted, “I encourage the Powell businesses and the community to support both the Chamber and PEP Board decisions. This is really a great opportunity for Powell. The City looks forward to working with PEP in their expanded role.”

Both the Chamber and PEP boards include volunteer representation from a variety of businesses and key partners like the school district, college, hospital and city.

For more information, please contact Christine Bekes, Executive Director of PEP, at 307-754-6094 or info@pepinc.org.
