General VISTA Activities or Projects (Use VAD Objectives and activities):
The Grants and Giving VISTA (Year 2) will build Powell Economic Partnership’s capacity to secure sustainable funding and resources that support anti-poverty initiatives in Powell and Park County. PEP projects address food security, local food access, farm-to-school programming, and workforce quality-of life initiatives for school-aged populations. Powell School District serves approximately 1,100 lunches daily, with 31% provided to students eligible for free lunch. By strengthening fundraising systems, grant readiness, and outreach infrastructure, the VISTA will help ensure these initiatives reduce health disparities and can be sustained without ongoing AmeriCorps VISTA resources.
Reason why you chose the VISTA Program:
I want to support programs that bring the community together and create healthier food opportunities for people in the park county area. I believe in the farm to school program I aim to build sustainable funding for these programs and continue to make a long term impact in the community.
Why you chose this VISTA position, experience, location:
Many of my skills and experience align with the Grants and Giving in Powell. My background in agriculture and Farm and Ranch Management has given me a strong interest in local food systems and community development. I also have administrative and organizational experience that can support grant research and outreach.
One thing you want to do other than your service tasks, in your year of service in WY:
I would like to be more involved with in the local community, farmers and schools by building relationships and create a trustworthy brand for the VISTA program. I want to learn more about the food system in park county and provide effective resources the agriculture community in the area.
If you could create a book series, movie or TV show about your life, what genre would it be and why:
I would create a educational documentary type of channel for the agriculture industry to learn and trade different educational topics for current or future farmers. It would highlight hard work behind farming and how important it is for sustainability, food security, and the future of our communities.
What genre of book, movie or TV would you like to have if stranded on a desert island or at the top of the Big Horn Mountains?
I would read a book about self mastery and finding a healthy balance in one’s personal life.

General VISTA Activities or Projects (Use VAD Objectives and activities):
Learn about the unique agricultural context of Park County and how PEP’s work impacts the community. Create sustainable outreach tools that can be used to teach different groups about food security and local agricultural systems. Lastly, develop funding resources to ensure that these tools and educational programs are sustainable moving forward.
Reason why you chose the VISTA Program:
I chose the VISTA program because in my previous work experiences I learned about many systemic issues affecting communities across our country, but I was not in a position to address them. The VISTA program is an incredible opportunity to build capacity in these communities in order to create sustainable results long after the VISTA position has ended, which is what really drew me to the program.
Why you chose this VISTA position, experience, location:
Having lived in larger cities after finishing college, I wanted to choose a VISTA position in a smaller setting, preferably through a position linked to the agricultural sector. The Food Systems Educator VISTA checked all of these boxes, and the work focused on gaining familiarity with local food systems reflected past volunteer experiences that I have enjoyed greatly.
One thing you want to do other than your service tasks, in your year of service in WY:
Visit my first national park!
If you could create a book series, movie or TV show about your life, what genre would it be and why?
Probably a documentary! It would be amazing to film all of my travels to watch them or read them back exactly as they were.
What genre of book, movie or TV would you like to have if stranded on a desert island or at the top of the Big Horn Mountains?
Definitely historical fiction (maybe set in Wyoming).

General VISTA Activities or Projects: Building the Park County Open Lands program’s capacity to support food producers in the region and ensure the long-term success of local agriculture. This includes community outreach and needs assessment, developing and implementing resilience models, and connecting stakeholders to resources and resilience building opportunities.
Reason why you chose the VISTA Program: My senior year of college, I participated in a direct service program where I worked with unhoused individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area on getting access to social services. I found there were many systemic issues that made the work much harder but that I had no way of impacting from within my role. I grew interested in indirect service as a way to better address the root issues behind poverty and chose the VISTA program as a way to engage in meaningful indirect service while still early in my career.
Why you chose this VISTA position, experience, location: While I have always lived in urban areas, I recognize that rural communities make up a large part of the population and that without the agricultural work done in rural areas, urban living would be impossible. I chose this position out of an interest in better understanding rural poverty and living as well as a deep passion in conservation, climate issues, and sustainable food systems. I was particularly drawn to northwestern Wyoming out of a deep love for the region’s landscape. The rugged mountain ranges, the big open skies, and the abundant wildlife make this place truly special.
One thing you want to do other than your service tasks, in your year of service in WY: Climb the Grand Teton!
If you could create a book series, movie or TV show about your life, what genre would it be and why? Probably a sitcom — something silly and unexpected is always happening!
What genre of book, movie or TV would you like to have if stranded on a desert island or at the top of the Big Horn Mountains? A long, suspenseful science fiction novel.

General VISTA Activities or Projects: I will continue implementing recreation access projects launched by previous VISTAs, including identifying stakeholders, locating funding, and planning for program sustainability after my exit.
Reason why you chose the VISTA Program: I see VISTA as an opportunity to gain professional experience working in my chosen field. Also, VISTA provides non-competitive eligibility for future federal employment! That’s a huge bonus.
Why you chose this VISTA position, experience, location: I’m an outdoor recreation fanatic! I love the idea of helping individuals with access hurdles get into outdoor rec. Whether that looks like kayaking, climbing, backpacking, or front-country camping, I’m all for helping people get outdoors. What initially drew me in was the proximity to so many national parks and other public land opportunities!
One thing you want to do other than your service tasks, in your year of service in WY:I’d love to make it to the top of as many of the region’s peaks as possible by the time I’m through my term. Also, I would love to hit up the cave systems and climbing sections throughout the region. Also, the region has a thriving mountain bike and multisport community, and I would love to become involved in it!
If you could create a book series, movie or TV show about your life, what genre would it be and why? I like to think I’ve got a few cool stories to tell. That puts me squarely in the Adventure category.
What genre of book, movie or TV would you like to have if stranded on a desert island or at the top of the Big Horn Mountains? Give me a DVR with every episode of How It’s Made, and I’d never leave that mountain top.
